I: Career 2.0

Wordpress ArtAfter 23 years of high-tech software and hardware experience, I can say with certainty that I have never really enjoyed it. Sure, the fat commission checks are great, however the lean quarters balance it out to a certain extent. Furthermore, I hate the “great job!” on days 90/180/275/365, only to be harangued on days 1/91/181/276 about “what have you done for me lately?”

I’ve been fortunate to travel throughout North America, Latin America and Europe, however more often than not there isn’t time to see anything as I run from customer meeting to meeting. I get tired of what I call “putting on airs” in front of customers; I’d rather just be myself. While married with three kids, I have a nomadic spirit with a sense of adventure. A loner at heart, photography, videography, motorcycles and travel allow me the time to be alone, work alone, explore and be in control of what I want to do or where I want to go.

My youngest child will be off to college the summer of 2020. That number resonates with me for a number of reasons. First, it allows my wife and I to sell the house, downsize and reduce expenses. Second, it gives me time to enjoy a successful run at my current employer. I like the team and I need the money for college funding. Additionally, it gives me over three years to figure out what I want to do with my post-child life. I want the year 2020 to be when I am 20/20 with “Career 2.0.”

This blog is a chance for me to document my progress with my photography and videography skills. More importantly, I hope to get feedback from readers, those that have experience with significant job change, as well as critiques by professionals or photo/video enthusiasts regarding my skills. In the end, I hope to have enough direction from both readers and my internal compass as to what direction to head with “Career 2.0.”

Thanks for reading (and hopefully your ongoing interest and support).

Regards,

Bob
